You probably already know that so-called tags are words or word combinations that can be used to flexibly manage certain areas (e.g. issues or wiki pages) in Redmine. For example, to categorize content or to locate it more quickly.

With the possibility of the Redmine Reporting Plugin project TAGs you can extend the usage advantages immensely. With the help of project TAGs you can also track down content that is not taggable.

In today’s article you will learn everything you need to know about tagging projects in Redmine and the advantages for other areas.

Redmine Reporting Project TAGs

Tags for projects

Users with appropriate authorization (e.g. project managers) can store TAGs for a project in the project configuration. The aim of a project TAG is either to better categorize certain contents (belonging to the project) or to be able to restrict the search to certain areas more precisely. Whether these are TAGs for departments, technologies, geographical locations or similar is up to you.

If the visibility of project TAGs has been defined in the Administration / Roles & Permissions area, then other users can also work with the stored TAGs and benefit from the advantage of this small but nice feature.

Redmine Reporting Project TAGs

Advantages

  • More flexibility through additional context.
  • Better (since simpler) classification of projects for an even better overview.
  • Use of project TAGs in various filter lists to specifically highlight relevant content even outside of a specific project.

Usable for:

  • the project list
  • the version list
  • the issue list
  • the list of spent time entries for issues or projects
  • the Gantt view
  • the calendar view
  • the system-wide logbook
  • the Reports area

If the HRM plugin is installed, then the following areas are still relevant for you, where the project TAGs are available for selection as filters:

  • User-related resource view
  • List of project members in the HRM area

Just by storing project TAGs, you have many more possibilities to track down special content (such as time bookings, which actually cannot be tagged) in the areas listed here with the help of the filter list.

TAG Configuration

Project managers are free to choose the assignment of TAGs to their projects. Sometimes, however, this circumstance may not be desired for internal company reasons. In such a case, users with administrator rights have the possibility to check, revise or merge existing TAGs to a project from time to time.

This takes place in a central configuration area Administration / TAGs.

Test the TAG function for Redmine projects

In our online demo you can test the function for setting project TAGs. This is only a small functionality with (we think) a big impact. You can find a list of all plugin functions in the Further information section. If you have any specific questions, we are happy to help. Just write us a message.
