Redmine hosting by AlphaNodes compared to Jira Cloud
Whoever switches today rarely does so because of the tool. They do it because the operating model has changed. So here is the comparison of the two hosted offers first. This compares Jira Cloud with the cloud packages by AlphaNodes, not Redmine hosting in general. Other providers run Redmine under different conditions.

- Automation: rule based issue handling, recurring issues, reminders before dates
- ServiceDesk: service requests by email become issues, with contacts and companies
- DB: structured records for contracts, assets, licences and certificates with custom fields
- Wiki Guide: approval workflow and read confirmation for the wiki
- DevOps: connection to GitLab and GitHub, commits on the issue, deployment overview
- Passwords: credential management in the team, by role and by project
- HRM: absences and resource planning
Cloud Professional adds the Planning add-on: interactive Gantt with drag and drop, issue checklists, timesheet and templates.

Frequently asked questions about switching
What does Redmine hosting cost compared to Jira Cloud?
Jira Cloud is billed per user and month, at a list price of 7.91 US dollars for Standard and 14.54 US dollars for Premium. Redmine hosting by AlphaNodes costs a flat 299 euros net per month for Cloud Basic and 499 euros net for Cloud Professional, independent of the number of users. At 50 users Jira Standard converts to around 375 euros, at 200 users to around 1,500 euros.
From how many users is a switch worthwhile?
Arithmetically from around 40 users compared to Jira Standard, because the flat rate of 299 euros matches the per user amount at that point. Compared to Jira Premium the point is around 20 users, and for Cloud Professional against Jira Standard around 70. The calculation covers price only, not the effort of switching.
Where is our data stored with a cloud package?
In a data centre in Germany (Bavaria) whose operator is certified to DIN ISO/IEC 27001. Processing is GDPR compliant, with a data processing agreement and without third country transfers. With InHouse operation the data sits on your own server instead.
Is there a user limit?
No. Projects and users are unlimited in every package. Pricing depends on the feature set and not on the number of users. You pay nothing extra for occasional users from other departments.
How long are we committed?
That depends on whether you book InHouse operation or a cloud package. With InHouse operation Redmine runs on your server, so the application and the data stay with you. With the cloud packages the instance runs with us, and what applies at the end of the contract is set out in our terms of use. Both options have a one month minimum term and two weeks notice, and the packages are listed on the hosting page.
How does the data migration work?
We start with an inventory: scope, functions in use and volume of data. Then we set up Redmine following our standards and migrate the data. Migrating from an existing Redmine is included in the cloud packages. If you are coming from another tool, we clarify the scope beforehand.
