Version 3.4.0 of our Redmine plugins delivers some notable new features as well as bug fixes and improvements to existing functions. Once again with a focus on the WikiGuide plugin. Here are some spotlights of the new features of our commercial Redmine plugins. Registered customers can find the complete changelog in our support area.

And don’t miss out on:

Ruby 3.1 or higher required

There have been changes to the minimum requirements since the previous version. Ruby 3.1 or higher is required for all our plugins. Thus also for this version. Important: this version will be the last plugin version that supports Redmine v5x. With the next planned plugin version (v4x), support for Redmine 5 will be discontinued and the latest Redmine version 6 will be required in the future. This brings many technical changes under the hood. It also offers the user a new look and feel. We recommend that you plan an update to Redmine v6 now.

Affects the following products:

  • Redmine Automation
  • Redmine DB
  • Redmine DevOps
  • Redmine HRM
  • Redmine Passwords
  • Redmine Reporting

  • Redmine WikiGuide

The two products mentioned are part of the Enterprise+ Bundles.

New Automation rule actions and variables

  • The new automation rule triggers for wiki pages were already introduced in the last version for users with the “WikiGuide Plugin” installed. With this version, the actions for the two triggers Event - Save wiki page, as well as Scheduled - Wiki pages has been extended again, for example by the actions Send mail, or Send mail for role.

    Redmine Automation wiki pages
The triggers provide various actions for a wiki page.

  • Also new in the previous version is the use of filters (e.g. RAW) for certain variable types (Strings, Integers, Date / Time). We have once again expanded the range of functions in this area to include date variables, which also allow the data output to be customized with the help of filters for variables.

Affects the following products:

  • Redmine Automation
  • Redmine ServiceDesk

The two products mentioned are part of the Enterprise+ Bundles.

New dashboard blocks with graphical evaluations for issues, users, custom fields

  • It is certainly known that our plugins support the dashboard function of the community plugin additionals. For this purpose, we offer various dashboard blocks for the Redmine start page or project overview page. With the new version, there are a few new dashboard blocks that provide graphical evaluations of tickets (or assigned ticket queries), as well as other entities if the corresponding additional plugins are installed:

    • Chart: Busiest time of day (if Reporting is installed)
    • Chart: First response time (SLA Issues) (if Reporting is installed)
    • Chart: First response time (Helpdesk-Ticket) (if ServiceDesk is installed)
    • Chart: Customer satisfaction (Helpdesk-Ticket) (if ServiceDesk is installed)
    • Chart: Custom fields for users (Format List and Key/Value List), (if HRM is installed)
    • Chart: Custom fields for projects (Format List and Key/Value List), (if Reporting is installed)
    • Chart: Custom fields for DB entries (Format Key/Value list), (if DB is installed)

Redmine Reporting Plugin Dashboard Charts
The new charts can be added as dashboard blocks to any dashboard (depending on the installed plugin).

Approval workflows and two-person rule for wiki pages

  • Introduction of workflows (one-step / two-step), as well as the four-eyes principle for wiki pages. In order to meet the increasing demands of our customers for a wiki system that fulfills the requirements of ISO 9001, we have greatly expanded the WikiGuide plugin with the necessary key functions. The plugin allows project-related monitoring and checking of processes on wiki pages, whereby it is possible to document who did what and when.

    Redmine Wiki approval workflow
The workflow settings are specified in the plugin configuration. These can then be activated on a project-specific basis and used accordingly.

  • Release of wiki pages based on one-step workflows / two-step workflows. By implementing an approval workflow for wiki pages in Redmine, it is possible to check and approve content changes in accordance with standards. The plugin provides various role rights for this purpose, with which it is possible to control the approval process within a project.
The workflow history provides support in terms of the traceability of changes and content and/or structural approvals. It is clear who did what to a wiki page and when. All changes to the wiki content generate a new version and thus start the release workflow.

  • Activation of the four-eyes principle for wiki pages With the one-step approval workflow, the approval process can be controlled by a single person (Draft ->Waiting for approval ->Published). With the two-stage approval workflow, responsibilities are separated (Draft ->Waiting for approval ->Waiting for formal approval ->Published). If the Two-person rule is also activated, it is also impossible for the author of a wiki page to also be the person responsible for approval.

    Redmine Wiki Guide permissions
Role authorization is used to define which project member is responsible for which task in the approval workflow.

Simple read confirmation for wiki pages

  • Another key function of the WikiGuide plugin is the implementation of a simple read confirmation for wiki pages. Users with the appropriate role authorization can request such a confirmation for any wiki page. Authorized users can also view read receipts that have already been issued or are still pending.
Once issued, read confirmations cannot be reversed and cannot be issued retrospectively for older versions. A read confirmation can only be issued for the latest revision. Redmine Wiki Read confirmation
Users with the appropriate role rights can request read receipts for individual wiki pages and view their issue / pending issue.

Detail page with extended information on the release workflow for wiki pages

  • As part of the conversion work, a new Details page was also added to the wiki page. This additional page serves as a central point of contact for retrieving all relevant key data for a wiki page. Due to the newly added workflow function, all the necessary data for the approval workflow has been added to this page. Redmine Wiki details page
In future, each wiki page will have its own detail page with important meta information about a wiki page.

  • Redmine WikiGuide

Filterable wiki list extended by workflow filter

  • The filterable wiki list facilitates quick access to important wiki pages. The available filters and options allow the user to create individual output lists of wiki pages.
If you have the task of checking and / or releasing wiki pages according to a release workflow, you can use the filters provided for this purpose to put together the necessary list view individually and save it as a user-defined query.
    Redmine Wiki list
The wiki list provides numerous filters and options to find the wiki pages that are important to you.

The dashboard block for queries for wiki pages can then be placed on the Redmine start page or the project overview. We recommend creating a separate dashboard with the corresponding queries for Wiki Manager. This enables targeted access to the necessary queries. Note: Dashboards can also be created based on roles. This means that they are only displayed to employees with the appropriate authorization.
