In everyday project work, AI mainly takes over reading and writing tasks: summarising issues, drafting reports, turning notes into tasks, finding connections. This overview shows tasks that have proven useful for different teams. All of them run in the Redmine AI Plugin: many as a ready-made template with one click, the rest as a question to the AI Assistant. That beats any copying into a chat tool: issues, time entries, dependencies and wiki are already there, you do not have to gather anything, and the result lands directly in Redmine.

Using AI by itself achieves little. The real benefit comes where a project regularly loses time: status reports, progress tracking, decision memos, customer communication. That is why these tasks come first here, and polishing texts comes last.

Template or AI Assistant?

Large companies build their own AI solutions, small and medium-sized teams have neither the time nor the in-house know-how. That is why our AI Plugin ships many tasks as ready-made templates: one click, no custom build, no prompt skills needed. They run where the data lives: as an AI action in the issue, as an AI reply in the comment field, as an AI block on the project dashboard, in the text editing of every text field or on a wiki page. The templates follow the rules defined for them. You can add your own templates for your individual workflows.

For everything else there is the AI Assistant in the project. You ask your question in plain language, the assistant searches issues, wiki and time entries, creates issues or changes them. It shows every change beforehand and only carries it out after your confirmation.

The AI makes the suggestion, you check and decide. Nothing goes to a customer or into an issue without your confirmation.

Data protection matters

Data protection does not slow down the use of AI, it is what makes it permissible in the first place. If the AI runs where the data already lives, the question is settled before it is asked. Otherwise traceability and review become difficult when your users breach your compliance rules by copying and pasting.

The AI Plugin is an addition to your existing Redmine, not a new tool: issues, wiki and time entries stay where they are, the AI is added on top.

Important: The plugin itself contains no AI service and no language model. It establishes the connection to the provider and supplies the tools the connected service needs to work with Redmine at all: the templates, the assistant and its access to issues, wiki, time entries and dashboards, always with the permissions of the logged-in user. Which provider you connect is your decision: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral or a locally operated model via Ollama, with your own account at the respective provider. Costs and data protection terms depend on that provider. The plugin only sends the content a template inserts as placeholders, and only what the respective user is allowed to see.

If you do not want an external account, use Redmine AI Hosting: there AlphaNodes runs the language model on dedicated hardware in the EU or on your own server. Project data then never leaves a server you do not know. The plugin is available exclusively in Managed Hosting, not for purchase.
